Arab leaders are expected to press Israel to compensate the Palestinian victims of three weeks of violent clashes, at an emergency Arab summit this weekend, Egypt's MENA news agency reported Friday.

A preparatory meeting of Arab foreign ministers has also proposed setting up an Arab fund to provide financial support to the Palestinians, the state-owned agency said.

Their proposal called on Arab heads of state to "stress the right of the victims, martyrs and their families to a fair compensation from Israel in return for the losses they have suffered," MENA reported.

More than 110 Palestinians have died since September 28 when violence erupted following a visit by Israeli opposition leader Ariel Sharon to the Al-Aqsa mosque compound in east Jerusalem.

The foreign ministers' proposals also called for a "fund or mechanism to provide financial aid to support the Palestinian resistance and lighten the burden of the siege on the (Palestinian) territories."

The Arab summit Saturday and Sunday will discuss clashes between the Israeli military and Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza which have continued despite appeals for calm following the Sharm el-Sheikh summit -- CAIRO (AFP)
