Swiss experts at world renowned medical and revitalisation centre Clinique La Prairie believe Arab women have some of the healthiest, youngest looking skin in the world.
According to doctors at the clinic, which is based on the shores of Lake Geneva in Clarens, women of Arabic origin have skin that ages exceptionally well for a number of genetic, cultural and environmental reasons.
Despite these observations, more and more women from the Gulf continue to flock to Clinique La Prairie for anti-ageing treatments with Botox and injections of ‘hyaluronic acids’ currently topping the list of procedures requested by Arab visitors.
“We welcome a significant number of female clients from GCC and neighbouring countries and, overall, their skin maintains vitality and youthfulness far better than women from elsewhere in the world,” said Dr. Roland Ney, a specialist in aesthetic medicine at Clinique La Prairie.
“Arab women have a number of genetic, cultural and environmental factors on their side,” added Ney. “However they continue to be among the most frequent visitors, mainly requesting Botox, fillers or lasers to smooth lines and wrinkles on the face.”
While surgical face-lifts remain popular with some of the region’s looks-conscious women, the majority of Arab clients undergo non-invasive procedures, creating subtle enhancements rather than dramatic changes.
Among the factors contributing to their skin’s superior qualities are the harsh summer weather conditions which mean women shelter from the sun from childhood and therefore avoid skin damage related to ultraviolet rays.
Many women also cover their faces for religious and cultural reasons, again minimising their exposure to sunlight and decreasing chances of wrinkles, discoloration and skin cancer.
The use of high quality cosmetic products is prolific in the region and doctors at Clinique La Prairie acknowledge extra care and attention paid by Arab women helps prevent early signs of ageing and improves both the health and appearance of the skin.
While females are praised by dermatological experts, Arab men lag behind according to Dr. Ney: “Men generally cover up less than women and also refrain from using any creams to protect themselves,” he said. “The fact the region’s men are more prone to smoking may also be reason why their skin lacks the youthfulness of their female counterparts.”
Clinique La Prairie opened a state-of-the-art spa and thalassotherapy centre last year and is renowned for its CLP-Extract treatment which has been in use since 1931 and contains unique substances that promote vitality, combat illness and help to postpone the effects of aging. The clinic is also the premier authority on various skin treatments, weight management, plastic and dental surgery
