Arabian Car of the Year took of with speed and style on 3 February 2007 at the Bahrain International Circuit. It is the first event of its kind in the region. The event aimed to cater to the general public, motor manufacturers and dealerships in the Gulf.
A total of 23 000 votes were cast in the 5 contested categories. 22 Cars competed for the people's choice in the Arab countries (combined Arab nationals and expats from a total population of over 300 million), all within a period of five months through a combination of WAP, phone, SMS and website voting. 11 Cars were chosen for jury members to test drive. The jury members composed of prominent auto journalists, motor experts and personalities representing the following countries, Bahrain, Yemen, Oman, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and Egypt. The event was also widely publicised on different media, including television, newspapers, publications and online media.
Mr. Hamid Alasfoor, Chief Executive Officer of Albayan Media Group, said, “Organizing this event at the Bahrain International Circuit lent credibility to benefit the general public and the automotive industry in the region. Our future plan is to enter into more regional media partnerships to ensure wider participation from manufacturers in the automotive industry and also the general public. This is the biggest event for car manufacturers in terms of interacting with the media and general public in the region. We will invite technology providers in the automotive industry to workshops to establish how this will benefit all parties for the future.”
The Arabian Car of the Year event’s aim is to ensure that consumers are made aware of the latest advantages in car technology, such as safety, performance, comfort, quality and pricing when purchasing a new or additional vechile. This also gives the end user and dealers the opportunity to voice their opinions in the automotive market.
