Palestinian leader, Yasser Arafat, congratulating French President Jacques Chirac on his election victory, urged Chirac Monday to help stop what he called "unjust and brutal Israeli aggression".

In a letter of congratulations, Arafat wrote "Our happiness is so great at your landslide victory...It reaffirms the principles of tolerance, justice, equality and democracy."

"We hope your excellency will do his best to stop this

unjust and brutal aggression in all its forms," he added.

According to Reuters, Arafat urged Chirac to support Palestinian demands for an international peace force to be sent to the region.

"We put great hope in your immediate intervention to put an end to the Israeli occupation," he said. (Albawaba.com)
