Palestinian President Yasser Arafat will visit Amman on Sunday for talks with Jordanian officials on the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian territories, said reports.
A Jordanian source told the Jordan Times on Thursday that Arafat expressed the desire to visit Amman following an emergency Arab foreign ministers' meeting in Cairo earlier this week.
In that meeting, called for by member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Arafat requested the convening of an extraordinary Arab summit to face up to Israel's “growing attacks on the Palestinian territories.”
The foreign ministers' meeting upheld the financial support for the uprising, and reiterated the Arab states' solidarity with the Palestinian people, as the Intifada entered its tenth month.
Officials in Jordan said discussion of an emergency Arab summit was premature and needed thorough planning, as well as a consensus among Arab leaders.
“We will hear from Arafat regarding his viewpoint and will act in accordance,” one official noted – Albawaba.com
