Arafat Welcomes Arab Summit

Palestinian leader ,Yasser Arafat, is pleased by Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak's call Friday for an Arab summit, an aid to Arafat said. 

"President Arafat welcomes the Egyptian president's initiative," Nabil Abu Rudeina told AFP by telephone from Tunisia, where he was traveling with Arafat. 

"This urgent summit shows that the Arab nation is taking the challenges it is facing seriously," he said. 

Mubarak, the acting head of the Arab League, announced that Arab leaders would meet October 21 and 22 in Cairo to discuss the situation in the Palestinian territories, where the Israeli army has killed more than 80 people, mostly Palestinian demonstrators, within the past eight days – GAZA CITY (AFP)
