Egypt has added to its already extensive map of tourist attractions an area with the remains of prehistoric circular graves and lamps in the southern part of the Sinai Peninsula, according to the Cairo-based Al Ahkbar newspaper on Wednesday.
The archeological site was recently discovered by an Egyptian-American mission headed by Mohammed Abdel Maqsoud, director of the North Egypt archeological department.
Egyptian Minister of Culture Farouq Hosni has endorsed a resolution to put the area under the Antiquities Protection Law, so that it will be maintained, preserved and developed as a tourist attraction.
“Other areas in Alexandria will be protected by the law, including antiquities that go back to the Roman days,” said Gaballah Ali Gaballah, secretary of Egypt’s higher archeological council.
