A group of armed men on Sunday stormed a police station in the Armenian capital of Yerevan, taking hostages and calling for the release of political prisoners, the BBC reported.

The group has released a video demanding the release of opposition leader Jirair Sefilian, who has been a vocal critic of President Serge Sarkisian's handling of the conflict in the Nagorno-Karabakh region. The video also called on citizens to take to the streets in support of the opposition leaders.

The armed men in the video said, "Dear friends, citizens, Armenian nation, it has begun, we are doing this for you... Go out to the streets!"

The CivilNet newspaper identified the group in the video as the Daredevils of Sassoun.

Several have reportedly been wounded in the incident in Yerevan.
