The Iraqi army has conducted successful operations against the Daesh group in some parts of the Arab country, inflicting heavy losses on the militants.

According to local media reports, an Iraqi army unit conducted an operation against the militants in the area of Bu Hayat in the restive western province of Anbar on Saturday, destroying a number of bridges constructed by the militants and killing at least five of them.

Reports also said that four members of the group were killed in an attack on the hideout of the militants in the city of Fallujah in Anbar Province on Saturday.

In another development, the Air Force of the Iraqi army also targeted a convoy of militatns while leaving the city of Mosul, the capital of Nineveh Province, destroying at least 18 vehicles belonging to the militants, and killing tens of the militants.

It was also reported that four military vehicles belonging to the militants were destroyed in the western part of northern city of Baiji, located in Salahuddin Province, with all militants on board the vehicles killed.

The development comes as Brigadier General Yahya Rasoul, a senior Iraqi military official, confirmed on Wednesday that army troopers and Popular Mobilization Fighters have wrested control of 80 percent of the province of Anbar, adding that central parts of the city of Ramadi, located about 110 kilometers (68 miles) west of the capital, Baghdad, have been liberated.

Dozens of Daesh militants have also been killed during the ongoing mop-up operations across the region, according to reports.

The northern and western parts of Iraq have been plagued by violence ever since Daesh began its activities through Iraqi territory in June 2014. Army soldiers and Popular Mobilization Units have joined forces, and are seeking to take back militant-held regions in joint operations.
