Army helicopters were called in on Friday to help fight a bush fire which destroyed orchards and wheat fields in the Lebanese towns of Najjarieh, Mseileh and Daoudieh in the Zahrani district on Friday.
The helicopters, along with teams of fire fighters from Sidon, Nabatieh and Zahrani and local residents, were forced to battle strong winds fanning the flames for 10 hours before finally bringing the blaze under control, reported the Daily Star newspaper.
A large area of olive groves and orange and lemon orchards were destroyed.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, though authorities said they had taken in a local shepherd for questioning, said the paper – Albawaba.com
