Thai police Thursday arrested an army officer over a bombing campaign against the Tesco Lotus chain which has left one person dead and two injured.

In the latest attack, a bomb planted in a shopping trolley exploded late Wednesday at a Tesco Lotus outlet in one of Bangkok's largest shopping malls, killing an employee instantly and injuring a customer.

On Monday a female worker in a store in Samut Prakarn province, just outside the Thai capital, was badly hurt when she disturbed a hand grenade that had been planted under a stack of carpets.

The terror campaign against Tesco Lotus was reportedly sparked by the sacking of its security firm, Royal Guard Group Holding, which held the contract to guard the retailer's stores nationwide -- BANGKOK (AFP)
