Yesterday's 4 matches as part of the Asian Cup qualifications yielded one astonishing result when underdog Bahrain upset the mighty Iranians 1-0.
The game in Group 2 was held in Aleppo, Syria. Bahrain took advantage of their opponents overconfidence and scored the vital goal on the 15th minute by Muhammad Salman. Bahrain, which is not considered as a leading team in Arab football, defended well for remainder of the game, a Safir daily reports. This unexpected win complicated things in the group. Now, three teams -- Iran, Syria and Bahrain -- maintain 6 points after three games. The group winner will be decided in the upcoming games to be held next week in Tehran. In another game in this group, Syria had no problems beating the weaker Maldives 6-0 (5-0 in half time).
In Group 4, Jordan unleashed its fury on Palestine by thrashing it 5-1. Jordan opened the score in the 35th minute by Abdallah. Khaldoun Fahd revived hopes for Palestine on the 48th minute, but the team fell up allowing their neighbors to score four times before the final whistle. Qatar, the group leader, demolished Pakistan 5-0.
