A suicide car bomber hit a police station in northeast Baghdad on Thursday killing ten people, including the suicide bomber and a passenger, and injuring others. The attack took place in Sadr City, a mainly Shiite Muslim neighborhood of Baghdad.

Earlier, Captain Sean Kirley, a U.S. Military Police spokesman said, "Nine people were killed in the attack, including three policemen, five civilians and the suicide bomber."

The attack happened just as policemen were lining up in the courtyard of the facility for the morning role call. One eyewitness said the driver of a white Oldsmobile drove through the police compound gate before being fired at by officers and then detonating his bomb.

In another incident, the Spanish military attache in Baghdad was shot dead early on Thursday as he left his home in the Iraqi capital, the EFE news agency reported.

The Spanish foreign ministry confirmed that the intelligence officer, named by official sources as Jose Antonio Bernal Gomez, was dead. Spain is part of the US-led forces that is occupying Iraq.

According to Spanish media reports, the diplomat had been posted in Iraq since the beginning of the US-led invasion of Iraq in March this year. (Albawaba.com)
