A rocket-propelled grenade slammed into an electrical transformer near U.S. soldiers in Fallujah, wounding two troops and sending a tower of flame into the night sky, witnesses and the U.S. military said Friday.

The U.S. military said one of the soldiers suffered a concussion and the other bruises from the impact of the rockets exploding near two Bradley fighting vehicles at the gate.

The soldiers returned a barrage of gunfire into the darkness, said Soadad Khalil, the supervisor on duty at the power plant in Fallujah. More troops rushed to the area and detained 40 Iraqis trying to flee.

Meanwhile, new attempts are reportedly underway in the search for Saddam Hussein. Citing U.S. sources, The New York Times reported Friday American intelligence officials now believe the ousted Iraqi president was probably still alive -- and still in Iraq.

The sources cited recently intercepted communications between fugitive Saddam's supporters, including discussions that indicated Saddam was alive and must be protected.

The sources told the Times the recent intelligence has re-intensified the hunt for Saddam and his two sons. The efforts are being led by a secret military unit that includes elite Army and Navy troops supported by the CIA, the newspaper added. (Albawaba.com)
