AUB professor receives award for best Arab researcher
Dr. Salim Chahine, an associate professor of finance at the Olayan School of Business, was recently awarded the 2008 Abdul Hameed Shoman Award for Best Young Arab Researcher in Economics, Banking, and Financial and Management Sciences
The Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation, which was founded in 1978 by the Arab Bank—one of the largest Arab and international financial institutions—supports and enhances scientific research and Arab humanistic creativity; builds bridges of dialogue and cultural communication; collects and disseminates general knowledge through various means.
Chahine was among six Arab researchers out of 108 nominated to receive an award from the foundation.
Chahine has a Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Aix-Marseille III. His research is mainly in Corporate Finance and Corporate Governance. He has several publications in refereed and internationally-recognized academic journals such as the Journal of Business Finance and Accounting, Entrepreneurship: Theory and Practice, the European Accounting Review and the Journal of Small Business Management. His research was featured in the National Bureau of Economic Research (USA), the American Finance Association, the European Financial Management Association, the Academy of Management Best papers proceedings, as well as several international conferences.
Chahine has also held several visiting positions at the Johnson School-Cornell University, King's College-University of London, as well as in several schools in Spain, Switzerland and United Kingdom.
