AUC's Spring '10 undergraduate commencement, where 449 students were graduated, including 59 with highest honors, 64 with high honors and 70 with honors. Several awards were presented to students for outstanding academic achievements and community service work, including the President's cup to Cole Agar; the Ahmed Zewail Prize for Excellence in the Sciences and the Humanities to Dalia Abu Azama; the Ahmed El Mehallawi Family Award to Hazem Mohsen; the Nadia Younes Award for Public and Humanitarian Service to Hana Khaled Zaki; the Parents Association Cup was awarded to Fateema Abdel Azim; the Engineer Bahgat Hassanein Award in Construction Engineering to Lamis El Didi and the Abdulla Mohamed Lamloum Award to Moheb Malak.
The faculty awards included the Excellence in Research and Creative Endeavors Award that was given to John Baboukis, director of the music program; and Amr Shaarawi, physics professor and associate dean for graduate studies and research. The Excellent Teacher of the Year Award was given to management professor, Ahmed Tolba; and the Excellent Instructor of the Year Award was given to English language instructor Nagwa Kassabgi.
Keynote speaker at the commencement was Mary Robinson, former president of Ireland and president emeritus of Oxfam International. Robinson focused her remarks on the imperative of addressing human rights issues.
