Orientation at the American University in Dubai (AUD) has become an eagerly awaited yearly event, attracting new students from all over the globe. Loyal to its tradition, AUD welcomed -during the January 10th Student Orientation, organized by the Student Services Office- all new students that have enrolled in the spring 2010Semester. AUD’s President Dr. Lance de Masi, Executive Vice President Mr. Elias Bou Saab, Provost and Chief Academic Officer Dr. Jihad Nader, and the University’s Faculty and Staff, accompanied by Student Orientation Leaders, guided the attendees throughout the Orientation, helping them to feel at ease in their new surroundings.
Orientation is a freshman’s rite of passage into university life. Throughout this crucial step, new students are introduced to the university experience, and get acquainted with the campus environment and the city of Dubai, in addition to acquiring knowledge about policies and procedures, university activities, mission and core values of different departments, including: Health Services, Housing, Student Activities, Academic Support, Athletics, Counseling, Career Services, Registrar, Library Services etc.
AUD’s President Dr. Lance de Masi, advised the new students on how to be successful at AUD,
“Do your best… Be humble… Take initiative… Respect others… Seek balance… Be open to new ideas… Develop thick skin… Assume responsibility… Consume books… Have fun! I hope that AUD helps you achieve your dreams; and should you not have any, help you get a few.”
The students were taken -by Student Orientation Leaders- on a tour of campus, and then visited their respective schools and faculties, after having gathered in the Auditorium to hear welcome speeches by the President, the Provost and Chief Academic Officer, and the Student Services Team.
Orientation’s most important goal -getting freshmen better acquainted with the AUD community and providing them with first hand information about AUD's rules, policies and campus life- was achieved smoothly, with new students feeling at home in their university.
A barbeque followed the orientation on the pool side of the university to welcome the students and involve them in the student life on campus.
