Iraqi gunmen on Sunday attacked a convoy of sport utility vehicles in Baghdad, killing at least two people, witnesses said.
There were conflicting reports about what transpired after the first volley of shots fired at the convoy, which appeared to come from an oncoming vehicle.
Some witnesses and policeman Gazwain Sami said that after the SUVs crashed in the hail of bullets, attackers emerged from the traffic and dragged five or six "Western-looking men" away.
However, two other witnesses, Khalid Zaalan and Qays Husseid, told The AP that after the attack, armed Western men jumped from the wrecked SUVs, commandeered a passing car at gunpoint and escaped.
Iraqis danced and cheered around the three bullet-pocked SUVs that apparently crashed in a hail of bullets. Two vehicles were set ablaze.
One body, wearing a flak jacket and soaked in blood, remained in the driver's seat of one of the SUVs. It was unclear how many people were in the vehicles or what their nationalities were.
An Iraqi man caught in the crossfire was killed and his pregnant wife and son were injured, said Mazhar Abdullah, a doctor at Al-Sadr hospital. (Albawaba.com)
