Bahrain Extends Deadline for Oil Bids

Bahrain has extended to June 30 the deadline for foreign oil companies to submit their bids for oil and gas exploration in its territorial waters, reported the Gulf Daily News on Thursday.

“The deadline has been extended from May 15 to June 30,” an oil official said.

“This is to give more time for companies to study the offer,” he said, according to the paper.

Bahrain's Supreme Oil Council in April said it was seeking bids for exploration work in the southern and eastern waters.

The decision was taken after the International Court of Justice resolved Bahrain’s territorial dispute with neighboring Qatar.

The dispute had prevented exploration on and around the Hawar Islands.
