Bahrain's state news issued a statement late Tuesday warning Bahraini citizens to leave Lebanon immediately and avoid traveling there "for their own safety."

Bahrain's travel warning comes a few hours after both Saudi Arabia and UAE issued travel warnings. Saudi Arabia urged traveling citizens to contact the embassy in Beirut. UAE further stated that the country would remove most diplomats and government officials from Lebanon immediately.

The travel warnings on Tuesday follow Saudi Arabia's Friday decision to cut a $4 billion security aid package to Lebanon.

Saudi Arabia is predominately Sunni and has faced rising tensions with predominately Shia Iran. Lebanon's government faces a partisan split between Sunni and Shia, but has shown support for Iran in recent events.

The Gulf Cooperation Council in a statement Saturday said it supported Saudi Arabia's decision.
