According to a senior official of the U.S. State department on Saturday, Bahrain and the United States have very strong relations. Their close partnership was demonstrated even more clearly in the post-September 11 arena, when Bahrain backed all U.S. moves, including the war against terrorism.
According to the Bahrain Tribune, U.S. President George W. Bush and the Americans have appreciated the steps taken by Amir Shaikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the solidarity shown by the people of Bahrain with the U.S., William Burns, Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, told reporters.
Burns is currently in Bahrain on the second part of a seven-nation tour of the region. This is his second visit to Bahrain in less than five months.
“Bahrain and the U.S. have identity of views on local, regional and international issues which has been a stimulus for both countries to accomplish common goals in all vital areas of interest,” Burns stated, referring to the interests of both countries.
Burns stated that the U.S. appreciated the initiative taken by the Amir on the political, economic and social levels, which demonstrated the leadership’s vision. “We firmly believe that both countries will continue to work together on issues such as the campaign in Afghanistan against Al Qaeda network and the Taliban,” he pointed out.
Talking about Bahrain’s role as an active partner of the international coalition against terrorism, Burns praised the Amir’s active role and Bahrain’s role as a frontline state in helping the partners in the coalition. (Albawaba.com)
