Bahrain is exploring the possibility of purchasing around 800 million cubic feet of Qatari natural gas per day, reported the Gulf Daily News.
Oil Minister Sheikh Issa bin Ali Al Khalifa will discuss the plans during his meeting Monday In Manama with Qatari Energy and Industry Minister Abdulla Hamad Al Attiyah, said the paper.
A representative for US Exxon Petroleum Company is also expected to attend the meeting.
Several other issues will also be on the agenda, including bilateral energy co-operation and exchange of expertise, said Qatari ambassador, Sheikh Abdulla bin Thamer Al Thani.
Bahrain consumes about 750m cubic feet per day in industries and power generation stations.
Bahrain produced 12m cubic meters of natural gas in 1999 compared with 32m cubic meters for Qatar. The GCC production of natural gas averaged 200,516 cubic feet.
Sheikh Abdulla also revealed that negotiations have reached their final stage to supply Kuwait with about one billion cubic feet of Qatari natural gas, the paper added – Albawaba.com
