A scheme to create new job opportunities for Bahrainis and Qataris is under consideration by a joint committee of the two countries' labor ministries, reported the Bahraini Gulf Daily News on Monday.

Labor and Social Affairs Minister Abdulnabi Al Shoala, who returned from an official visit to Qatar, was quoted as saying that the minutes of his meeting with Qatari officials would be presented to the High Joint Committee headed by the crown princes of Bahrain and Qatar.

The two sides agreed to encourage the free movement of workers between Bahrain and Qatar.

They also agreed to integrate the national workforce of each country in the local market and create new job opportunities for people.

Shoala said many Bahrainis were currently working in Qatar.

"Qatari officials have assured us that any Bahraini interested in working in Qatar will be treated like a Qatari national," he noted.

The joint committee will study the expansion of the labor market in both countries and the creation of new job opportunities for nationals.

The minister told the paper that the committee would also study the appointment of international consultants to study labor market issues of both countries – Albawaba.com
