Bahrain signed on Saturday with Thailand a number of agreements covering the economic, trade and technical sectors, officials said.

Bahrain’s prime minister, Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, discussed with the Thai premier, Thaksin Shinawatra, the opportunities in Bahrain offered as a gateway for Thai exports to the Gulf region and Middle East.

The sources were quoted by Bahrain Tribune as saying that Bangkok was studying the possibility of opening Islamic banks in Thailand and Bahrain had offered to help in this area.

Sources told the paper that the talks also covered cooperation between the private sectors in both countries in the areas of engineering contracting to enable Bahrain to benefit from Thai expertise in building flyovers and roads – Albawaba.com
