Sitra Mall, one of Bahrain’s leading shopping destinations, is set to introduce its smoking ban tomorrow, coinciding with World No Tobacco Day.

To celebrate the ban, Sitra Mall management and members of the Bahrain Anti-Smoking Society gave away T-shirts and baseball caps to Sitra Mall customers to promote the message of no smoking.

Commenting on the new policy, Waqas Al Dhawadi, Manager of Sitra Mall, said, “We’re very proud to be the first mall in Kingdom of Bahrain to introduce a smoking ban.  Sitra Mall will now offer a smoke free shopping experience, which is great news for all of our customers, especially young families.”

Dr. Mariam Al Jalahma, Chairperson of Bahrain Anti-Smoking Society said, “The enforcement of smoking ban in malls shall have added value to the shopping experience in particular and malls in general. Thursday 31st of May was chosen as it coincides with World No Tobacco Day and WHO's theme for this year is (Towards 100% No Tobacco Environment). Studies showed that negative smoking by a non-smoker leads to cancer as one cigarette contains four thousand poisonous substances".

Dr. Al Jalahma thanks all Sitra Mall's officials for their pioneering initiative and their participation in the awareness campaigns.
