Bahrain University will start offering a degree course on travel, tourism and hotel industry in the second semester of this academic year.
The decision was announced at a two-day seminar held at the Manama Holiday Inn two days ago under the title “Tourism in Bahrain – Reality and Aspirations, according to the university’s website news bulletin.
The step comes amid Bahrain's efforts to boost tourism and market its resorts to sun seekers from around the world, said university officials.
The industry has proved to be a good money earner and has employed hundreds of Bahrainis so far, the paper said, adding that the cabinet has recently decided to set up a BD100 million ($265.3m) private company to develop beaches and other tourist attractions, according to Khaleej Times on Monday.
Bahrain adopts more liberal policies than other Gulf states. The island’s resorts are attractive to tourists from Saudi Arabia, which is linked to Bahrain by a 25-km bridge over the Arabian Gulf -- Albawaba.com
