A Bahraini association opposed to normalizing ties with Israel will next month launch a campaign to turn public opinion against the Jewish state and garner further support for the Palestinian struggle against 34 years of occupation, reported the Gulf Daily News on Tuesday.
The Bahrain’s Association for Resisting Normalization of Relations with the Zionist Enemy will hold public lectures and create fundraising initiatives, said the paper, adding that the association was also hoping to host in Bahrain a congress of similar organizations in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
It has also submitted to the US Embassy a petition denouncing American support for Israel, said association vice chairman Ebrahim Kamal Aldeen.
The petition, in the name of the association and the National Committee for Support for the Palestinian Uprising and addressed to US Secretary of State Colin Powell, was handed to the US embassy's political and economic officer, Greg Hicks.
"We hold the US responsible for the deteriorating situation in the region, caused by the daily carnage committed by the prime minister of the Zionist state, the criminal Ariel Sharon, against the Palestinians," says the petition, cited by the paper.
"Because of your absolute alignment and clear involvement in supporting Sharon's criminal policy, he has not hesitated to use his proficiency in committing crimes.
"What his criminal gangs are doing is no less than genocide, through which unarmed civilians are killed, trees are cut down and farms swept away.
"In addition to all that, a program of bombings, assassinations and arrests are all done through the use of American missiles and planes," according to the petition.
The international community, which is witnessing all these crimes, does nothing to stop Israeli atrocities, which are in contravention of international laws, human rights conventions and United Nations resolutions, says the petition.
"We, in the name of all people of Bahrain, urge you to immediately stop the carnage taking place against our brothers in Palestine by the war criminal Sharon," it says.
"The US, as a superpower, is morally responsible for defending human dignity and rights, which it staunchly supports.
"We urge you to stop aligning blindly with an occupational state, at the expense of the rights of the Palestinians and Arabs," adds the petition by the Bahraini group – Albawaba.com
