Bahrain's Prime Minister, Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman al-Khalifa, arrived in Kuala Lumpur on Monday for a three-day official visit to Malaysia for talks to enhance bilateral ties between the two countries, reported the Iranian News Agency (IRNA).

Sheikh Khalifa is accompanied by a 55-member delegation including four cabinet ministers, said the agency.

A Malaysian official said that "Malaysia and Bahrain are expected to sign a memorandum of understanding to establish a joint commission which will pave the way for greater economic cooperation."

The Bahraini delegation is expected to leave for Bangkok on Wednesday, said the agency.

In June 1999, the two countries signed an agreement for the promotion and protection of investment.

The main objective of the agreement, says the Malaysian industry ministry in its website, is to expand and deepen trade, economic and industrial cooperation on a long term basis between Malaysia and Bahrain -- Albawaba.com
