ALBAWABA - As the US Presidential elections approach, footage circulated on social media showing dozens of ballot boxes set ablaze across Portland, Oregon, and Vancouver Washington.
Law enforcement in Oregon acquired pictures of a dark-colored Volvo S-60 car around the scenes where the ballot boxes were set on fire, and have launched an investigation to trace the vehicle.
Police in Portland, Oregon, responded to a fire that they believe was caused by "an incendiary device" inside a vote drop box early on Monday.
According to a statement from the Multnomah County Elections Division in Oregon, three votes were damaged. The statement added that "virtually all ballots were protected by the fire suppressant inside the ballot box".
Clark County Auditor Greg Kimsey told American broadcaster NPR that the "majority of the ballots are completely destroyed and the remaining ballots are severely damaged and very very wet,".
In both Washington and Oregon, where law enforcement, including the FBI, is currently conducting investigations, with election officials are requesting that voters who left their ballots in these drop boxes over the weekend contact them so they can ensure they cast their ballots.
