Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak said on Sunday there was no significant decline in the level of unrest that has swept through the Palestinian territories over the past month.

"It is not yet possible to say that there has been a significant decline in the scale of the violence despite the fact that in certain places, the Palestinian police has worked to reduce the scale of the demonstrations opposite army forces," Barak told a cabinet meeting, according to a statement from his office.

"In the diplomatic sphere (Barak) said he still hopes that it will be possible to implement the Sharm understandings," referring to the US-brokered October 17 accord reached in the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh where both sides pledged to take steps to quell the violence -- JERUSALEM (AFP)
