Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak said Saturday that the peace process with the Palestinians would be halted if there is no end to the bloody unrest in the Palestinian territories in the next two days, reported AFP.
"If we don't see an end to the violence in two days, we will consider that a halt to the negotiations," Barak told a press conference in Tel Aviv.
"Israel will not lead negotiations in tandem with violence," he said after a wave of deadly clashes between Israeli forces and Palestinians that have left more than 80 people dead.
Al Jazira satellite channel reported late Saturday that Syrian Foreign Minister Farouq Shara said that Syria backs Hizbollah in “its legitimate resistance and demands.”
The TV also quoted Israeli acting foreign minister Shlomo bin Ami as saying Israel is ready for war with “countries in the region,” blaming the violence that broke out in Lebanon Saturday on Syria, Lebanon and Hizbollah.
Hizbollah kidnapped the same day three Israeli soldiers and their leaders said they would swap them with Lebanese detainees in Israel, which threatened it would raid Beirut if the soldiers are not released.
Iran, which backs Hizbollah, would stand by Syria and Lebanon in case they are subject to Israeli aggressions, said its foreign minister Kamal Khrazi – Albawaba.com
