The Israeli government said Wednesday it has decided to set up a state commission to investigate the killings of Israeli Arabs during a wave of Israeli-Palestinian unrest that spilled over into Israel last month.

"The government decided today, following the recommendation of Prime Minister Ehud Barak to set up a state commission to investigate the violence in the Arab sector," a spokeswoman for Barak told AFP.

Members of Israel's one million strong Arab community had called for a top-level investigation after 13 Israeli Arabs were killed by Israeli forces last month, among the almost 190 people to have died since the unrest erupted six weeks ago -- JERUSALEM (AFP)
