Barclays Moves Closer to its Customers in Deira

Opens Sales and Service Centre in close proximity to 20,000 plus SME traders

Barclays Bank opened a new Sales and Service Centre located in the bustling district of Deira (Dubai) today. The opening was marked by a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by Michael Miebach, the Managing Director of Barclays Global Retail and Commercial Banking in the Middle East and North Africa.

“Barclays remains committed to providing convenience and superior customer service to our clients in all of our locations. Deira represents a key growth market for us in UAE as we seek to expand our client base of small and medium enterprises,” said Miebach.

With over 20,000 traders and local businesses in Deira, the location of the Centre was a carefully considered strategic move for Barclays. Deira is one of the most mature areas of Dubai and is home to many of the city’s well-established businesses.

“Some of the most stable businesses during the entire economic downturn have been the small and medium enterprises that make up a considerable portion of the trade and service sectors in the Dubai economy,” said Miebach.

Miebach said that Barclays expects considerable interest from the shop owners and residents of Deira as a result of the opening. “While other multinational banks have made inroads into this neighborhood, the area has long been dominated by local banks. As a leading global financial institution, we are bringing our signature products and services to an area where we believe there will be high demand.”

Barclays is confident that its presence in Deira will help in gaining new market penetration opportunities by catering to the needs of the predominantly Asian and expatriate Arab population residing in the area. They also hope to service the tourist population who stay in the many nearby hotels.

The Sales and Service Centre will allow 24 hours ATM usage and customer applications for for credit cards, loans, new accounts, and enquiries about the broad range of Barclays services.
