West Bank secretary of Fateh, Marwan Barghouthi, has called on the Palestinian security forces to provide protection for Fateh and other leaders, reported The Jerusalem Post Tuesday.
He was quoted by the paper as saying that Israel was trying to eradicate them, the paper added.
Barghouthi has repeatedly denounced the Israeli attacks against key figures in the Palestinian resistance groups as “cowardly” acts used in order to “abort the uprising.”
But such measures would “do nothing except to fuel the Palestinian rage against the Israeli occupation,” Barghouthi said in an interview with Albawaba.com earlier in November.
Several assassinations took place in the Palestinian territories and which targeted Fateh members.
Slain 37-year-old Hussein Ebayyat, a father of three and an elected leading Fateh activist in Bethlehem, was a victim of such attacks.
Four other Fateh activists were also killed in an Israeli ambush late November.
Slain Jamal Abel Razzaq, Nasir Abu Laban, ‘Awni Duhair and Na’il Al Rawi, were traced and killed by the Israeli forces.
In a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, Likud party leader Ariel Sharon had bluntly asked for the elimination of Mohammad Dahlan, head of the Palestinian Preventive security forces.
The Israeli government had always used assassination as a shelter from uncontrollable situations, which according to Marwan Barghouthi indicated a “political bankruptcy” – Albawaba.com
