The first joint Syrian - Lebanese IT symposium will be held later this month in Damascus and Beirut.
This event is co-organized by the Syrian Scientific Association for Information, headed by Dr. Bashar al Asad, and the Lebanese Information Society. The conference, The First Syrian Lebanese Symposium for IT and Telecommunications Development: Current and Cooperation Prospects, will have its sessions on April 25 and 26 in Damascus and then will move for two days to the Lebanese capital, a Sharq al Awsat daily reports.
The main topics on the agenda are as follows:
1. Modern technology in IT and Telecommunications
2. Society, IT and Telecommunications
3. Software industry
4. The vocational and educational aspects in IT and Telecommunications
Lectures on the current conditions of the IT sector in both countries will be delivered. At the same time of this conference, the Syrian Scientific Association for Information will hold its annual fair, "Sham 2000 for IT". This event provides a good opportunity for the locals to get acquainted with the latest IT applications and innovations. The number of visitors in this fair has been on the increase: in 1996 the number stood at 25,000 visitors whereas last year, the figure grew to 57,000.
It should be noted that the main interest of the Association is to develop the software industry in Syria.
