Bayern Tormented Werder 3-0, Seize German Cup Trophy

Bayern Munich tormented Werder Bremen 3-0 in a spiteful German Cup Final, Saturday in Berlin.

Second half goals from Brazilian duo Elber and Paulo Sergio helped Munich breeze through the match, leaving Bremen scoreless. The champions played lightly as they needed to save their energy for next Tuesday's Champions League semifinal return leg against Real Madrid.

In the 86th minute Elber was replaced by Mehmut Scholl who tapped in Bayern's third goal seconds before the final whistle.

Bayern's president Franz Beckenbauer and commercial manager Uli Hoeness have dismissed the final match as meaningless and suggested Hitzfield concentrate on the Champions League semifinal second leg against Real Madrid, which has put the Bavarians under intense pressure since losing 2-0 in midweek.

Bayern's coach Ottmar Hitzfield had earlier promised the public a full strength team against Bremen and knowingly fulfilled his promise saying that he wanted to win the Cup at last.

Munich are now ranked second in the league only three points behind Bayer Leverkusen - (Several Sources).
