Flights to and from Beirut International Airport will be partially suspended on Thursday and Sunday for the summit of French-speaking countries in the Lebanese capital, officials said.

Flights will be suspended on Thursday between 10:00 am (0700 GMT) to 9:00 pm (1800 GMT) and again on Sunday between 1:00 pm (1000 GMT) and 4:00 pm (1300 GMT), the civil aviation authority said, according to AFP.

The measure is designed "to guarantee security and facilitate the arrival and the departure of the participants in the summit," it said in a statement published by the state news agency ANI.

Civil training flights have already been totally suspended since Sunday and until October 21. Lebanon's national carrier Middle East Airlines has cancelled flights on Thursday to Athens, Jeddah, Dammam, Kuwait, Amman and Larnaca. Additionally, it has changed the times of its Cairo and Dubai flights. (Albawaba.com)
