Police in Belgium have arrested two men suspected of planning extremist attacks in the country, prosecutors said Saturday.
The suspects were detained on Friday night following seven raids in the Mons region and another in the eastern city of Liege, which lies near the border with Germany and the Netherlands. However, no weapons or explosives were found.
The suspects were named as 33-year-old Nourredine H and his brother Hamza H, whose age was not given.
The two men were due to be presented to a judge on Saturday. More details were not immediately available.
However, investigators said that there was no indication that the suspects had been involved in the March 22 Brussels attacks targeting an airport and an underground train station in the Belgian capital, which left more than 30 people dead.
Belgium's terror alert level is currently at the second-highest position, indicating that threats are considered "serious, possible and likely."
