Belgian Foreign Minister, Louis Michel, held talks in Brussels on Tuesday with President of the Palestinian Legislative Council Ahmad Qurei. They discussed the ongoing developments in the occupied Palestinian authorities.
Michel, for his part, who said Europe was very concerned over the spiral of violence in the Middle East region, stressed that there was no military solution for the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, according to a Foreign Ministry statement, cited by KUNA news agency.
The Foreign Minister and Palestinian official reviewed the discussions among the quartet members (US, EU, UN and Russia), to bring about a roadmap that leads to the establishment of the Palestinian state in three years.
Furthermore, the Belgian foreign minister emphasized the role the PLC could play in executing legislative elections next year and to ultimately create a democratic state in the Palestinian territories.
In addition, he encouraged dialogue between what he considered as "moderate" officials from both sides. (Albawaba.com)
