Lebanon's speaker of parliament Nabih Berri welcomed on Monday Kuwait's "continuous support" for Lebanon as the oil-rich country pledged to help Beirut execute the Litani River project, reported the Daily Star newspaper.
Berri arrived in the emirate on Sunday on an official visit during which he discussed with Kuwaiti officials expanding bilateral ties said the paper. He was accompanied by a number of members of parliament.
During his visit, Berri met with Kuwait's Emir Sheikh Jaber al-Ahmad al-Sabah, said the paper, adding that Sabah said his country would also provide Beirut with financial assistance to clear land mines left by Israeli occupation.
Berri said the emir's various political positions concerning the need for Arab coordination in the Middle East "matched" Beirut's positions.
According to the paper, Kuwait has already financed studies on various projects, which are ready for implementation through the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development.
Lebanon has been receiving Arab and European financial support especially after the Israeli withdrawal from the south in May.
Many countries presented several investment projects in the area as many parts of it were severely damaged by the Israeli bombardment -- Albawaba.com
