British PM Tony Blair arrived in Khartoum to urge the Sudanese government to end the fighting in Darfur.
Blair is to hold talks with President Omar Ahmed al Bashir and his deputy Ali Osmaan Mohammed Taha, on the first leg of a three-day Africa visit.
Blair's spokesman said: "Our purpose is to underline the clear message to the government of Sudan from the international community as outlined by the United Nations.
"That message is that Sudan must comply with UN resolutions, it must negotiate a peaceful settlement with the rebels, just as we are saying to the rebels that they must negotiate a peaceful ceasefire." (albawaba.com)
