ALBAWABA - An Israeli news outlet reported that United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken is scheduled to visit the region this week following the assassination of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar on October 17.

According to Haaretz, Blinken's visit to the Middle East is a bid to end over a year of war in Gaza and reach the long-awaited deal highlighting that Gaza-Israel ceasefire talks have been frozen since the killing of Hamas' former leader Ismail Haniyeh during his visit to Tehran last July.

The Secretary of State will arrive in the region this week in an attempt to reach a plan to end the war and release Israeli hostages from Gaza, who were taken on October 7, 2023.

Antony Blinken is expected to arrive in Israel on Tuesday amid the regional visit.

The Israeli website also mentioned that some officials in the Biden administration fear that the chances of signing an agreement to stop the war and return the kidnapped remain low despite the killing of Yahya Sinwar.

On the other hand, US President Joe Biden and VP Kamala Harris both said that the killing of the Hamas leader is a great opportunity to end the war.

Furthermore, AFP reported that Andrew Miller, an American official in the State Department who deals with the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, revealed that Tel Aviv can benefit from the killing of Sinwar "as a pretext to argue that we have achieved our objectives and it's time to move in a different direction."
