Reuters reports that a suicide bombing by Boko Haram killed thirteen people at a mosque in Cameroon on Wednesday.
"The suicide attack took place at 5:40 a.m. (0440 GMT) in a mosque at Kouyape. There were 13 deaths including the man who blew himself up and one wounded," said a senior local official who declined to be identified to Reuters.
Boko Haram originated in northeastern Nigeria and has increased attacks in Cameroon, Chad, and Niger in the past year. The militant group has used women as suicide bombers in many of their recent attacks.
Boko Haram has carried out multiple suicide bombing attacks in recent months. In September, Boko Haram bombed a mosque in the Northeastern Nigerian city of Maiduguri, killing over 50 people. In December, Boko Haram conducted multiple suicide bombings across Chad, killing at least 30 people.
The motive for the attack on the Cameroon mosque is unknown.
