Two Algerian farmers were killed during the weekend after a bomb that had been buried in a field where they were working exploded, newspapers in Algiers said Monday.

The victims had been installing irrigation pipes on Saturday in Beni H'bibi in the Jijel region, some 360 kilometers east of the Algerian capital, when the bomb exploded.

The press said Islamic extremist groups had buried it, according to AFP. Meanwhile, on Sunday, security forces defused another bomb hidden on a road near Chlef, 200 kilometers west of Algiers, newspapers reported.

The same day, a policeman in Chlef died of injuries received in a blast on Friday that killed two other people. (Albawaba.com)
