Middle Easterners are less prone to crippling knee diseases because they kneel to pray a lot and this gives their joints more exercise, says a leading bone specialist, quoted by the Gulf News Sunday.

At the invitation of Al Noor Hospital in Abu Dhabi, Professor David Caborn, international pioneer in knee and shoulder arthroscopic surgery and in the treatment of sports injuries, lectured on a new treatment to combat osteoarthrosis of the knee, the daily added.

"The purpose of the new treatment technique is to replace fluid lost within the knee when the patient has arthritis," the paper quoted him as saying. "Rather than having a nice smooth surface, the knee becomes rough and fluid starts losing its shock absorbing ability and no longer protects the knee.

"We inject fluid into the knee to make it like a piece of rubber and oily. Three injections are made over a two-week period," he said. The results can be seen within eight to 12 weeks. The trial was made in Europe, Canada and the US and was a great success -- Albawaba.com
