Two American military trainers were reportedly killed Friday in a shooting outside an air base near Amman, Jordan, CBS reported.

Jordan's state-owned news agency Petra said the shooting happened at the entrance to Prince Faisal Air Base, southeast of Amman, after the vehicle carrying the American trainers failed to stop at the security checkpoint.

Petra also said a third person, a Jordanian soldier, was injured. It described the incident as "an exchange of gunfire."

The nature of the shooting remains unclear, and there was also no immediate comment from US officials.
