Reuters reports that al-Nusra Front has released the 16 Lebanese soliders to the Red Cross as the prisoner swap negotions have been finalized.
Al-Jazeera TV broadcast from the exchange area. The Lebanese servicemen were escorted to the location by masked men armed with assault rifles, chanting "God is great."
Qatar has mediated the ongoing swap negotiations.
The Lebanese servicemen have been held captive since August 2014. Nusra Front and Daesh collaborated on an attack on the border city of Arsal, and kidnapped multiple Lebanese servicemen. It is believed that Daesh still has nine prisoners not included in the deal.
The prisoner swap deal also includes the release of thirteen extremist-affiliated people, including the ex-wife and children of Daesh leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
