British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw arrived Monday in the Saudi capital of Riyadh at the start of a Gulf tour.

Straw, who was received at the airport by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal, is due to meet with several Saudi officials, a British diplomat in Riyadh said.

On Tuesday, Straw handed over at the residence of the British ambassador in Riyadh, scholarships to 13 Saudi students, including nine female students, within the framework of Chevening Scholarships Program for the Academic Year 2004-2005, used to be awarded by the British Government to foreign students worldwide.

According to SPA news agency, these scholarships make it possible for foreign students to join higher studies at British universities - for studying various specializations including international law, health management, educational planning, communications and design. (Albawaba.com)
