Two new cases of mad cow disease, or Bovine Spongeiform Encephalopathy (BSE), were reported in France on Sunday, bringing the number of cases in the country so far this year to 58.
The first case was discovered in the Vendee region in western France using a test developed by the Zurich firm Prionics, which gives a result within eight hours, said police authorities in Vendee.
The infected animal belonged to a herd of some 200 cattle, which was to be rapidly destroyed, officials said.
The second case was found in dairy farm in the neighboring region of Sarthe, forcing the destruction of a herd of 70 animals -- PARIS(AFP)
