ALBAWABA - At least seven people have been killed after a massive fire engulfed a residential building in a neighborhood of the southern French city of Nice.
The fire department and rescue teams were called in around 2:30 am, and rushed to the scene in Les Moulins, with the cause of the fire remaining unknown. Rescue teams stated that "unfortunately seven people died during this fire".
According to the Le Parisien, a total of 3 people were injured and immediately hospitalized, with one being in critical condition.
A total of 72 firefighters and 25 fire engines were deployed to the fire scene, as the firefighters reported that they were met with a "violent apartment fire" on the seventh floor of the building. They carried out three aerial ladder rescues and evacuated dozens.
Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin took to X, formerly Twitter, to hail the efforts of the fire department and their role in preventing further damage and more casualties.
"The rapid action of the firefighters undoubtedly made it possible to avoid many additional victims," Darmanin wrote. He added that the police will be releasing further updates as the investigation continues.
